IS SUNDAY LEAGUE OPEN TO BOYS AND GIRLS?
A: Yes! We offer co-ed divisions for Grades 3-12. And new for Fall 2024, we will be offering a "Boys Only" division as well for Grades 6-8 and Grade 9-12. Therefore, boys in Grades 6-12 can choose whether to register for the co-ed division or the boys only division.
MY CHILD IS NEW TO VOLLEYBALL. IS THE SUNDAY LEAGUE A GOOD PLACE TO START?
A: Yes! Each weekly session includes skills development as well as game-play so we teach the fundamentals to help newer players learn the game. Each team is assigned a coach each week to help with all aspects of this development.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SUNDAY LEAGUE AND CLUB (REP) VOLLEYBALL?
A: Sunday League is a house league designed to give all kids a chance to play. There are no tryouts, the weekly sessions are 90 minutes each and the season runs for 8 weeks. Club or Rep Volleyball, (the two names are interchangeable), involves a tryout process each fall where kids are selected for teams in their age group. These teams practice 2‐3 times per week and play tournaments on weekends. It’s a far greater time and cost commitment and the environment is more competitive. Teams play within the Volleyball BC Association and often travel to the U.S. for tournaments as well. Many of our Club players got their start in Sunday League!
MY CHILD is interested in improving their volleyball skills. are their options other than sunday league?
A: Yes! BCO offers indoor skills clinics throughout the year and beach volleyball skills clinics in the summer months (June-Sept). Check out our Indoor Skills Clinics or Beach Volleyball programs for more information.
How will i know which location i am playing at each week?
We use several different venues for Sunday League and the locations can change from one season to the next based on gym availability and the number of players registered. We typically use Windsor Secondary, Argyle Secondary, Carson Graham Secondary, Sutherland Secondary, and/or Mountainside Secondary. Players can request their preferred location when they register but we cannot guarantee that we will end up using the particular venue that you request and we can only accommodate a certain number of players per venue. Therefore your request is not a guarantee. We will email all players a few days before the program begins to let them know what location they have been assigned to.
How are teams assigned? DO I need to register as part of a team or can i sign up as an individual?
Teams are assigned based on a combination of age, skill level, friend requests, and gender. Players will sign up as individuals but during the registration process, you will have the opportunity to provide names of any friends who you would like to be on a team with. We will do our best to accommodate all friend requests.
