Our Story
NORTH VANCOUVER'S OLDEST & MOST WELL-KNOWN YOUTH VOLLEYBALL CLUB
BCO Volleyball Club is a registered non-profit youth volleyball club based in North Vancouver, BC. It was founded in 1978 by Canadian Men's National Team athlete and certified Indoor/Outdoor International referee, Mike Rockwell, and Handsworth Secondary School teacher, Neil Salkus. Mike and Neil recognized a need for a grassroots program on the North Shore to help young athletes develop the skills and experience necessary to compete at the university level and beyond. Their dream was to help as many players as possible pursue and reach their goals of one day competing at the Olympics. Based on this, they decided on the name BCO (British Columbia Olympic) Volleyball Club.
After 40 years of success, in 2019, the Club was taken over by two-time Canadian Beach National Champion and 2012 Olympic qualifier, Christian Redmann. Also assisting Christian is two-time Canadian Open National Champion, Maverick Hatch, and 2016 Beach Volleyball Olympian, Jamie Hatch (Broder).
BCO is a non-profit organization and a member of the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada. Our NCCP-certified coaches provide their expertise to assist young athletes to achieve excellence in volleyball. Our development programs prepare players for high level competition in high school, college and beyond.
Unlike many clubs, BCO’s primary focus is player development and team success follows as a consequence. The vast majority of all BCO Elite graduates have secured placement at a post-secondary institution in Canada or the USA, and eighteen graduates have played for our National Team, including current Canadian National team members Kyla Richey, Kiera Van Ryk and Sarah Chase. Many BCO Alumni have played professionally in various international venues as well. Check out our Alumni Page for a full list of our alumni success stories.

Jamie Hatch (Broder) - Vice President
Growing up in Victoria BC, Jamie started playing Volleyball when she was 15 years old and fell in love with the sport immediately. She started her indoor volleyball career as a right side at Vancouver Island University, but after three years transferred to University of British Columbia. Originally recruited to UBC as a libero, Jamie’s fiery personality lead her into a starting left-side position within her first season there. By the time her five-year indoor career came to an end she had helped UBC win their first CIS championship in 30 years and kick started their CIS dominance of 6 repeat championships. She also finished as a CIS Championship tournament all-star.
Jamie's biggest claim to fame is the fact that her and her partner Kristina Valjas competed in Women's Beach Volleyball at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio where they placed 9th overall. She also made Canadian history in 2015 by winning the first ever medal for Canadian Women’s Beach Volleyball, a gold medal at the FIVB Open in Fuzhou China.
Jamie is a favourite with smaller athletes as she stands only 5’7” tall yet manages to not only compete at the highest level, but win, too. Having just completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Jamie brings a wealth of knowledge to the club from a playing, coaching, and business perspective.

Natalie Eades - General Manager
Natalie played for BCO from 2002 to 2005 and is thrilled to be back with the Club that played such a pivotal role in launching her volleyball career. She discovered volleyball on the Sunshine Coast in Grade 6 and, after playing for the Sunshine Coast Volleyball Club for several years, began commuting to North Vancouver in Grade 11 to join BCO. This experience paved the way for her collegiate career, playing for the SFU Clan from 2004 to 2006 and then for the UBC Thunderbirds from 2006 to 2009. During her time at UBC, Natalie won two CIS national championships with the team.
Since graduating from UBC, Natalie has brought her passion for volleyball to coaching, working with teams at BCO, Thunder, Argyle Secondary, and Lord Byng Secondary. She also continues to play recreationally. Natalie is excited to now help young athletes achieve their own volleyball goals through the opportunities BCO provides.
