2023 Club Coaches
BCO is proud to present our star-studded line up of coaches for the 2023 Club Season!
13U Girls Coach - Jenny Marineau
Jenny is a BCO alumni and former Canadian National team player. She played for Canada for over a decade competing in multiple international events. She was a leader on our National Team and also played numerous season professionally in Europe. Spending 2 years in Belgium and 6 years in France before deciding to settle down on the North Shore.
Jenny is extremely humble and doesn't like to brag about the success she had as a coach this past season with the grade 6 Brooksbank Bobcats. It is clearly the first step in a long and successful coaching career! We are lucky to have her as part of the BCO family!

13u Girls Coach - Carmen Emslie
Carmen grew up in small-town, northern Alberta where she was fortunate to have a number of amazing volleyball coaches who guided her through successful school and club careers. Carmen spent most of her teenage summers playing for Team Alberta, and competed at the Canada Summer Games in 1997. Carmen went on to play for the University of Alberta Pandas from 1996-2001, winning four National Championships.
After university, Carmen moved to Vancouver where she fell in love with beach volleyball and played for years until she and her husband started a family. Since then, Carmen has created a mini-volleyball program at her kids’ school, Braemar Elementary, and is loving the chance to give back through coaching. When she’s not in the gym, you can find her working with seniors in the community as a PT, playing with her three kids or hiking the north shore mountains. |
13u Girls Coach - Aly Barrie
Alyssa started playing Club volleyball in grade 5 in Vernon, B.C. and has loved the game ever since. After setting for her team at Kalamalka Secondary School, she enrolled in UBC’s Human Kinetics & Rehabilitation Science programs. 14U Girls Head Coach - Devlyn Lohnes
Devlyn is originally from Ontario where he grew up and attended college for marketing. He moved out to British Columbia last year to explore the West coast lifestyle that he and his wife have always wanted to have.
Devlyn has been playing volleyball since he was 9, playing competitively throughout his teens as both a setter and left side hitter. His college did not have a varsity volleyball program, so he settled for intramural leagues during the winter and competed in local competitive beach volleyball leagues during the warmer months of the year. He has a wealth of experience coaching in other sports and is looking forward to bringing his passion for coaching and volleyball to the BCO program this year and in the future. |

18U Girls Head Coach- Rob Hill
Rob is back for a third season with the club after leading the 14U girls to a provincial championship and 4th place at Nationals in 2022. Rob grew up on the North Shore where he enjoyed playing several sports before focusing on volleyball at UBC. Lacking the height, athleticism and skill level possessed by most varsity volleyball players, the rationale behind his selection to the varsity team in 1986 remains a complete mystery. Nevertheless, Rob found success on the court as a shagger of volleyballs during training sessions - which he did with remarkable vigor and determination for most of his first two seasons at UBC.
With a lot of support from his teammates and coaches, Rob eventually found success on the court as a player and was a 3-time Canada West All-Star, an All-Canadian and was team captain for his final two years. He was invited to stay on with the Men’s program as a member of the coaching staff planning and running practices which he gladly did for five years. Rob has served on the Volleyball BC Board of Directors since 2014. Rob returned to the North Shore in 2005 where he and his wife Annie are raising their three kids. |
15U Girls Black Head Coach - Heather Hood
Originally from Winnipeg, Heather has been an educator for almost 25 years, starting off in South East Asia and landing here in BC and is currently an elementary teacher in the West Vancouver School District. She has a wide range of coaching experience and training with new volleyball players at the elementary, high school and college level and has taught PE at various schools in her district. This former setter and outside hitter got her start playing competitive volleyball in the late 80’s and was trained by some of the best coaches in Canadian volleyball back in Manitoba. Her lack of ‘volleyball height’ moved her to the sidelines coaching through university after high school where she has happily stayed supporting players to love the sport she is so passionate about. Heather is excited to be back for a second year with the BCO coaching team and to continue working with our enthusiastic and dedicated athletes.

16U Girls Head Coach - Kat Dolguikh

17U, 18U Girls Coach - Frank Lee
Frank grew up in Langley playing volleyball in the Fraser Valley and was fortunate to play a season with the Jr. Varsity Men’s program at UVic. Hired in the late 90’s by the North Vancouver school district as a music educator, he was "invited” to coach volleyball as an assistant to Mike Rockwell and Cal Wohlford. During his 23 years of coaching high school volleyball and 12 years coaching for BCO, he has enjoyed taking part in the journey student athletes take towards a deeper passion for the sport. She then went on to play volleyball at the University of the Fraser Valley for three years as a middle blocker. She is now in her fourth year of studies at Simon Fraser University. Oswald Gabriel, who is called "Gabe" by his friends, grew up in a small town in the Philippines. He first started playing volleyball in his first year in High School, and then instantly fell in love with the sport. Although he started playing later in life, you can never tell because his competitiveness and enthusiasm radiates whenever he is inside the court. He moved in BC when he was 18, and brought his skills from his homeland to New Westminster Secondary School where he spent his last year in High School playing the sport that he loves.
