SUNDAY LEAGUE

BCO Sunday League is a "Train & Play" style program. It is designed to give beginner/intermediate level athletes in Grade 3-12 an opportunity to develop their volleyball skills and play competitive games as part of a team, without having to go through the stress of tryouts.
Sunday League is meant for players who have little or no previous experience (eg. have played on school team, in a summer camp, P.E. class, or have never played before). It is not meant for players who have played on a competitive club team before.
CO-ED PROGRAM
The co-ed program is open to
boys and girls in grades 3-12.

In the Grade 6-12 Co-ed divisions, players will be assigned to a specific team at the start of the season, with the option to request teammates.
In contrast, the Grade 3-5 Co-ed division does not have preassigned teams. Instead, players will be rotated weekly, allowing them to play with and against different participants each session.
Each session will include an individual skills training portion, with a focus on a different skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, hitting, etc). This will be followed by "modified" gameplay portion where players get to compete as a team against others.
BOYS ONLY PROGRAM
The boys only program is open to
boys in grades 6-12.

In addition to our co-ed divisions, we also offer a "Boys Only" division. Therefore, boys in Grade 6-12 can choose which program to register for.
There are no preassigned teams in the Boys league - players will be moved around each week so that they get to play with and against different players each week.

Each session will include approximately 60 minutes of skill drills focused on fundamental volleyball techniques such as setting, hitting, passing, defence, serving, and blocking. This will be followed by approximately 30 minutes of "modified" gameplay.
DETAILED PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
JUNIOR'S
GRADES 3-5
In our Junior division, there are no preassigned teams. Instead, players will be rotated weekly, allowing them to play with and against different participants each session. Our sessions consist of 50-60 minutes of skill development with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc), followed by 20-30 minutes of modified games like "Spike Ball." Spike Ball is a 2v2 game played on one-third of the court, allowing each court to accommodate 12 players across 2-3 simultaneous games. This setup maximizes ball touches for each player. The game is played over a low net, encouraging players to practice spiking. In our Jr. division, we use "Volley Lite" balls, which are specifically designed for younger players. These lighter balls make it easier to control passes and serve over the net.
INTERMEDIATE
GRADES 6-8
In our Intermediate division, we focus on preparing players for school and club team tryouts. Sessions include a short dynamic warm up followed by 30-40 minutes of skill development, with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc). This is followed by 40-50 minutes of modified gameplay, where each team competes in two matches. While mastering volleyball skills is essential, we also emphasize applying them in real-game situations. Our intermediate division features modified gameplay using “Triple Ball,” the format recommended by Volleyball Canada and commonly used in school and club competitions. In Triple Ball, a serve initiates play, followed by a coach tossing a controlled "free ball" to each side to encourage rallies.
SENIOR
GRADES 9-12
In our Senior division, players will participate in a short dynamic warm-up, followed by 30-40 minutes of skill development with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc). This is followed by 40-50 minutes of game play, during which each team competes in two matches. This division features "Double Ball," a modified version of volleyball where a "free ball" is tossed in after an ace or a missed serve. This ensures that every ball begins with a rally, creating more opportunities for active play. Each ball played is worth one point.
BOYS
GRADES 6-12
In our Boys Only division, there are no preassigned teams. Instead, players will be rotated weekly, allowing them to play with and against different participants each session. BCO Boys is a training and development program tailored specifically for our male athletes in grades 6-12. The format of the program includes drills and exercises similar to that used by BCO Club/Rep teams followed by a gameplay component. Games will be modified as needed to ensure smooth and continuous play. This may include using "Triple Ball" (see Int Co-ed Division), "Double Ball" (see Sr Co-ed Division), or other modifications as necessary.
